Here's Kallie's birth story:
Tuesday morning, March 16th, 2010. Kent and I woke up around 6:00am to start getting ready to go to the hospital. It's only about 10 minutes from our house, so we didn't have to leave too terribly early. My mom was up here and she stayed with Kensley. Kent and I made it to the hospital and got prepped. I had already been having contractions that morning, but nothing out of the normal that I had been feeling all week. The nurse was VERY nice and took great care of me! I was so blessed! She started my pitocin around 8am. I could feel the tightness in my stomach, but not much pain. The dr. came by around 9:15 and went ahead and broke my water. I was 3-4cm dilated. The contractions started getting stronger after that. Kent was the only one in the room with me and boy was I glad. It was so nice because he naturally is not a "talker", so when I was having the contractions, he'd just come stand by me and breath me through it. (then he'd throw out a sarcastic remark afterwards- SO like him!) It was about 9:45am and I decided I wanted my epidural. The contractions were getting pretty bad- I couldn't talk at all through them. The nurse said my contractions were 1-4 minutes apart. When I called for the epidural, the nurse laughed and said "I'm one step ahead of you! I've got the anesthesiologist out here right now". They were in the room within the next two minutes, at the most! I am always nervous about the epidurals because it's such a sensitive area to be messed with. Nerves can be a scary subject. Anyways, everything went in fine and within the next 20 minutes, I was numb. The feeling after the epidural is SOOOOO nice! I think it's God's gift to women. :) Once the epidural was working, the nurse said she thought I had got it just in time. She checked me at around 10:45 and I was at 6cm. She left us in the room and I eventually started feeling pressure in my bottom. The nurse checked me around 11:15 and said Kallie had dropped and was ready. My mom was taking Kensley to Nikki's and then heading up to the hospital. The nurse said she had about 20 minutes, at the most to get there. She arrived at about 11:30, right in time. The dr. got to the room and the nurses got everything ready and prepped. I pushed through 3 contractions and on the third contraction, Kallie Grace was born! albs 4oz 20.5' long- 11:51am. She was a pound heavier than Kensley- but it makes such a difference when they're that small! A lot of people think Kallie favors me a little more. Woohoo! :) She has a darker complexion than Kensley. Her face isn't as round as Kensley's was. I'm sure as the days pass, we'll be able to tell more of who she looks like.
Here are a couple pictures from delivery day:
Kallie is doing great. She's latched on and nursing well. I send her to the nursery at night so I can sleep as much as possible (they bring her for feedings). She is just so perfect. I am SO in love. I was anxious to feel the love of a mother of two..... it's amazing. You think you could never love another human as much as you love your first, but it's not true. That love just multiplies (if you can even imagine that!)
